A REPORT CORRECTED

(by telegraph—press association.) WELLINGTON, May 9In a Press Association message from Feilding, dated April 7, it was reported that as a result of a. police raid on a two-up school various men were convicted and lined. Among those mentioned a.s having been convicted was Leslie Ivirkcaldie, and it is now ascertained that the charge against Mr. Kirkcaldie was not proceeded with, and the police eventually applied to have the case struck out, which was done. The Press Association lias to express its regret for the error made, and takes the earliest opportunity of publishing this correction.

AUCKLAND, May 3. William iThomas Osmond, who admitted using premises in Hobson Street as a common gaming-house, was fined £3O.

ESCAPED FROM PRISON

CHRISTCHURCH, May. 9. Patrick Joseph Clemenger was charged to-day with escaping from Pa-parua prison, and was sentenced to an extra eight months’ imprisonment on top of the present sentence of two years’ reformative treatment.

HEAVY FINES IMPOSED

DUNEDIN, May 9. Gkstave Johnson pleaded guilty at the Police Court of being in eharge of a. motor car while intoxicated. The police stated that defendant ran into a cable car. The superintendent of police, who witnessed the accident, stated that defendant was nearer drunk than intoxicated. Johnson was fined £25 and was prohibited from driving for three years. Arising from this defendant, who, after the accident, was found to have in his possession a double chart showing

bets taken, was fined £2OO ouua charge ' of carrying on the business of a bookmaker, there being two previous convictions.

SNELL CASE SETTLED OUT OF COURT.

It was announced in the Magistrate’s Court to-day that the Snell ease bad been settled out of court.
