Great interest is being taken in the forthcoming Waimate Football Club’sannual social and dance-, which is to be held on Wednesday night in the Manaia Town Hall. A general meeting was held -o-n> Saturday night, when it wa-s reported that the various committees have arrangements well in hand. 80-ltoni’s orchestra will -supply music and a first-class supper and floor will be provided. Tickets are selling rapidly, and everything points to a very large attendance. , The last- of the first _ series of euchre parties held in the Hiebmi-an Hall in aid of the new Convent School, Ma-naia last Frida-v night was very successful, over 20 tables being filled. Play was very keen and interesting. The prizes for the evening were won -as under: Gents, Mr Lang 1, Mr C. Wiloocks 2; booby, Mr J. Barmess; ladies, Mrs M. Long 1. Mrs R. Donald 2; booby, Miss K. McPhdlips. Points prize for the series : Gents, Mr M. Brown 1, Mr E. I/ong, senr. 2, T. Walsh 3 ; ladies, Miss Parker 1. Mrs R. Donald 2, Mrs F. Mourie- 3. The gents’ points prize was given bv Mr H. Sutton, .and he will give the gents’ points prize for the next -series of .six mights, winch is to Ik> held every fortnight. The prizes were presented by Rev. Father O’Dwyer.
