RAILWAYMEN INJURED.

MISHAP ON MAIN TRUNK

JIGGER STRUCK BY TRAIN

(by telegraph—press association.) HAMILTON, May 7. A serious accident occurred on the railway line between Rukuhia and Ohaupo about 5 o’clock last night, when a train from Franktoin Junction struck a, jigger on which two men were travelling. Conditions weer misty, and the men failed to notice the approaching train.

Jack Hamilton, aged 25, sustained a compound fracture of the right leg and injuries to his hand and head, while Charles Sleeth, aged 45, had a fracture (possibly a compound one) of the right leg. The injured men were placed in the guard’s van of the To Kniti train and conveyed to Firankton. Their condition is reported to be fair, but both are undergoing operations in the Waikato hospital to-day.
