SPORTS MEETING.

. KAKARAMEA TO-DAY A FINE GATHERING.

The clear, bright weather combined with, the' excellence of the programme and the variety of events to attract to the Kakaramea Sports and Agricultural Association’s meeting, which was begun this morning, a great crowd of visitors from all over the district. The grounds near the factory, lent by Mr. Lord, were very suitable for the gathering, and everything went with a good swing throughout, thanks to the good work of the honorary secretary, Mr. C. P. Lord, and the president, Mr. F. S. Tarrant, and energetic committees. Spectators were .kept interested the whole day. There was >a good attendance, and a very pleasant day’s entertainment was enjoyed. The programme included utility farm classes—farm and milk cart horses, and dairy stock, of which there were good entries of excellent quality. The sports element was amply provided for in the horse and pony jumping, athletic events (foot racing and jumping), and seven-a-side Rugby tourney. The chief event in the horse leaping was the open class, for the handsome twenty guinea cup and prize of £ls, and this served to bring out the best horses from all over the district. Additional interest was lent to the competition because three well-known iiorses each had a. leg-in for the; trophy. Another “draw” was the tug-of-war for a valuable cup. This has always attracted good) contestants, and the rivalry to-day wa.s very keen. During the day there was a series of races for the children, which provided unending interest. The Hawera) Municipal Band, was in attendance during the afternoon, and gave a good series of interesting selections. Results:—
