SEASON OPENING GATHERING
Encouraging interest in tlie affairs of the Ha.wera Miniature Rifle Club was evidenced ;at the season’s opening gathering last evening when approximately fifty members, including about fifteen who were making their first appearance, were in .attendance at the range. • An apoilogj’ for absence, was received front 6 tbe patron, Dr. W. F. Buist, who was to- have presided at the opening ceremony. In his absence the president (Mr. P'. O'. Veale) extended welcome greetings to- all in attendance, and expressed pleasure in noting the presence of several who were new. to the club. He expressed the hope that the interest shown in the initial gathering would be maintained throughout the season and that the meetings would be well supported. The opening shot was fired by Mrs. Veale, the lady champion of last season, following which the gathering was formed into two- divisions for a teams competition.
