MUST RESIGN
VICTORIAN MINISTRY.
ITS LEADER RENOUNCED.
NATIONALISTS’ DECISION
BY CABLB—FBESS ASSOCIATION —COPYEtGUI Received 11.5 a.m. to-day. MELBOURNE, May 4. Negotiations are proceeding between the State Nationalist and the Country Parties for the formation of a nonLabour Ministry. Little headway has, so far, been made towards an understanding. The Nationalist Party is unhesitatingly determined that the present Ministry must resign. Members renounced the leadership of the Hon. J. Allan and indicated that they will not support any new administration led by him. A meeting endorsed a proposal that an attempt should be made to form a Nationalist Ministry under the leadership of Sir William McPherson. A meeting of the Country Party expressed its willingness to examine Sir William’s proposed legislation and personnel of his Cabinet.
Mr. Allan expressed his willingness to retire from the leadership, if this step were necessary to keep the Labour Party from the Treasury benches.
