FIGHT WITH FLOOD.
LOUISIANA’S PLIGHT,
MORE LEVEES CRUMBLING
BY CABLE—PEESS ASSOCIATION—COPYEIGHT. Received 10.20 a.m. to-day. WASHINGTON, May 3. A message from New Orleans says: Louisiana is fighting a losing battle against the crest of the Mississippi Hood. The homes of 200,000 persons are in the path of the waters, which have broken through the levees in the northern part of the State, and other 'levees are crumbling along both the Mississippi river .and; its large tributaries. It is feared that new havoc will 1 follow when the crest advances 1 a short distance. The Red Cross has madd preparations to care for a further 100,000 refugees in its camps. Boats are gathered at central points ready, with the crews, to hasten to districts where aid is needed. There are many marooned victims, although evacuation was accomplished) more speedily than farther, north. Headquarters of the Louisiana relief have lieen established at Baton Rouge.

Received 11.5 a.m. to-day. WASHINGTON, May 3. King George has cabled his sympathy with the sufferers in the flood disaster in Mississippi.
AN IMPROVEMENT REPORTED.
NEW ORLEANS, May 2. Spreading floods in the northern parishes of Louisiana have rendered thousands homeless. On Monday evening some improvement was .reported in the conditions in south-eastern. Arkansas and Mississippi. Relief workers are turning their attention to the question of sanitation and rehabilitation.
