HAWERA FIRE BRIGADE.
WINNING TEAM HONOURED.
To mark the success scored by the Hawena Fire Brigade team which, did so well at the competitions an Stratford recently, the brigade organised a social .in their honour and gave the members of the team a great reception. Superintendent Morrison presided and there were present brigadesmen from' /all over South Taranaki. The teams comprised Deputy Superintendent P. Grace and Firemen E. A. Hart, J, Kelsen, J. Zinsli, It. Seagar, and A. Macßeth. It was a compliment to them to see present four past presidents of the association —Oapfcs. U. H. Carey (Patea,), G. White (Manaia); Foreman J. Champion (Ha-w-era), and Secretary P. T. Aitken (Stratford). The outstanding feature of the evening’s programme was the presentation of thel Taranaki United Fire Brigades Association’s shield by Deputy-Superintendent Grace to the Hawera superintendent, Mr A. Morrison. The supeAntendent thanked the team and congratulated them on their, success.
During the evening a short toast list was gone through as below. After the Royal toast had been honoured, “The Haw-era Fire Brigade” was proposed by Mr D. A. Sellar _ and responded to by the superintendent; “The Hawera representative team” (Super inten den t Morrison —DeputySuperintendent Grace; “The Ladies” (Foreman Champion—-Mrs Grace) ; “Ex-Fireman” (Foreman Hurley-Ex-Fireman Kelly); “Visting Brigadesinen” (Superintendent Morrison — Captains Carey and White and- Foreman Davis); ‘“The Musicians” (Fireman Zinsli —-Mr A. E. Morris); and “The Press.”
There was an excellent programme of musical items, contributed by Miss Butler, and Messrs Powell, Musehamu, Carey. Aitken, Hart, Seagar, ■Morris and C. Dowdie. The accompaniments were played by Miss Butler, and altogether a very pleasant evening was spent.
