“THE SHOW.”

SOUTH TARANAKI SHOW PAPER

The publishing venture by,, the South Taranaki Winter Show executive, with the secretary, Mr. L. O'. Hooker as publisher, ha.s proved to be a success and a valuable corollary to the show. The second number has just been printed, and is now being circulated among .schools, teachers, and others interested. « . . The feature of the number is the school schedule for the show, which is ' printed on the paper in detail. This is on the lines of last year, but has been revised and brought up-to-date. The scope of the forestry has been enlarged and there are important additions to the essay section. The most interesting is the competition for' children attending the primary schools in the Sheffield district, Yorkshire (Eng.), for w]i icii a challenge shield has been donated by Mr. Hooker os a points prize for .schools. The subject is “New Zealand and its products,”- and prizes in the ten classes, for respective standards, are given by the Winter Show, •while prize-winner will receive a pound of New Zealand butter donated by the Dairy Produce Board. These essays are now being received by the show executive, and already many have come to hand. , The essays are a feature of the “School Children's Empire Reciprocal Publicity Scheme,” which has been set on foot" by the show organiser and promises to be a. big and. important means of publicity for New Zealand produce. Articles are contributed by the Hon. O. J. Hawken on “School Forestry,” and one on the scope and work of the Government Publicity Department, as the result of an interview with Mr. A. H. Messenger, officer in charge. The publication, which has been printed at “The Hawera Star”, office, is one that will help very materially in building up and popularising the South Taranaki Winter Show.
