LATE SPORTING.

LIMERICK’S WIN. A BRILLIANT PERFORMANCE. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT. Received 11.25 a.m. to-day. SYDNEY, April 27. The “Sydney Morning Her aid, ’ ’ commenting on the Cumberland Stakes, says: “A feature of the race was the brilliant win of the New Zealand gelding Limerick. It also proved that Heroic is not the formidable opponent he was. It was a slowly-run race,, and Limerick ran past the field in .a few strides. McCarten appeared to have a good hold of him as lie passed the post two and a half lengths ahead of Pantheon.

The “Herald” refers to the City Handicap as a be’<nted win by Rawhetu and compares the race to the Waverley Handicap of 1925, when Rawhetu .showed an umsuual burst of speed in the early stages. He soon opened up a big lead, which he kept till he readied the post. This performance was rerepeated vesterday. The “Telegraph” says: “Limerick’s performance entitles him to rank with the greatest t-hre;-year-olds of recent years. Within a furlong from home McCarten gave Limerick his head. The ease with which he gathered in the front horses was pretty to watch, and once in charge Limerick was not asked to gallop, and won by just .as much as clve rider wished.”
