The Admiralty lias authorised the Australian Press Association to convey a cordial recognition of Neiv Zealand’s splendid patriotism and material co-operation in the Singapore base scheme, Avhich it regards as both time]y and practical. The Hon. W. C. Bridgeman is sending a communication to the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates direct, ex pressing appreciation, both officially and personally.
The Secretary for the Dominions, the Rt. Hon. L. C. M. S. Amery is equally appreciative. Not only is the Ministry of. the Dominions gladdened bv the good news, but, inevitably the Avhole GoA-ernment is impressed. Mr. Coates’s decision is the clnet. topic of discussion in Admiralty circles, Avhich AA’ill issue an official statement Avhen Neiv Zealand Parliament confirms the vote. The decision is also Avarmly applauded by XeAV Zealanders in^Britain.
