OPERA HOUSE. COMMENCING TO-NIGHT. “THE SON OF THE SHEIK” AND CLEMENT MAY. Starring in a lavishly produced sequel to the .screen story which brought him his greatest fame, Rudolph V alentino comes to the Opera House this evening for a three-nigjht season in the picture which metropolitan critics have hailed as his greatest. It is “The Son of the Sheik,”a fiery, love-mad opus of the desert, with Vilma Banky, Montague Love, Karl Dane, George Fawcett, Bull Montana, Agnes Ayres and other noted players supporting Valentino. Love, life and adventure are not sugar-coated in this screen version of the E. M. Hull romance; insteadi the makers of the picture, according to reports, have given the original twentieth century sheik a vehicle permeated with realism and replete with daring situations and thrills. Lovers of delightful humour and pathos should not miss the performance of Clement May, who has been .specially engaged to appear at the Hawera Opera House for .a season of one week, commencing tonight. Portraying the delightful characters from the works of the immortal novelist Charles Dickens, in costume, with a delightful setting, including “The Old Tong Church,’’ made famous by the author as the resting place of Little Nell. Mr May’s firstseries will include a portrait study of Charles Dickens himself, the cunning crafty despicable Uriah Heap, the delightful humorous Willcins Mieawberconcluding with Grandfather Trent from the “Old Curiosity Shop’’ (Little Nell’s grandfather), a character that has moved a million hearts. The last item will be accompanied by two delightful solos by Miss Lenore Pulsford. the English contralto, with organ and bell effect. Mr May has appeared in every part of the British Empire in these delightful characters. Box plan now open, at Opera House confectionery ; dial 2713. GRAND THEATRE, TO-NIGHT. “PROWLERS OF THE 1 NIGHT.” Fred Humes, the. newest of Western stairs, makes his debut in the five-ree 1 form of cowboy drama, in 1 ‘Prowlers of the Night.” which is to. be .screened at the Grand Theatre to-night. The story deals with love and hate on the open range when a young sheriff finds that the lawbreaker who wounded him in battle is the parent of the .girl he loves. Beautiful Barbara Kent plays the role of the girl, while the cast includes ‘‘Slim” Cole. “Baldy” Belmont and John T. Prince. There is an excedent supporting programme. EMPRESS PICTURES, MANAIA. TO-NIGHT. “The Campbell Boys,” two_ versatile entertainers, direct- from a triumphant tour of South Africa, will make an appearance at the Empress Pictures tonight. They will present the- latest musical novelties in a manner which should please everybody. The feature picture, “The Bells” is the screen version of the stage play made famous by Sir Henry Irving, and starring _ the screen’s most famous .actor, Lionel Barrymore.
