The outside of the course proper -on the Egmont course was open this morning for horses going to Palmerston North, and exercise work was dome on the sand and trial grass. G. Jackson was out and rani Benzora five furlongs. He went nicely, running the distance in 1.7 1-5. C. Trotter sent Barryanda and Lady Bentinck over five furlongs. Lady Bentinck finished well in front of her companion in 1.7 i. Enare, Prophet’s Alark, and Helen were given: pace work on the -sand. Ranee cantered round and ran home the last three furlongs. Gaillard and Bevis were companions over five furlongs Gaillard got a break at the start and maintained it to the finish in lmin 7sec. Sovena finished up her work by running three furlongs in 38secs. Contrary to some reports, Avola is in steady work, and, a 1! going well, will be .a starter at Hawera. She was outdoing pace work this morning. Orcades. Bisox and Bright Glow ran five furlongs on the trial grass in 1.6. Euchre trotted and cantered, and Lady Acre also did pace work. Captain Gazeley .worked on the sand track, and Partaga was given half pace work. Ladv Desmond returned home yesterday. The mare did well enough on the trip, hut did not appear to relish the right-handed going. She is to he> tot up for a while. O. Cox has Lady Cavendish and Reremoana racing at the Avondale meeting to-day. Thev are- going to reach Palmerston on Tuesday, where Barryanda and Lady Bentinck will ]om them. , , ~. Tli© Lamb, in R. Brough’s stables, is to have a- tot up of two or three months on liis owner’s place art Opunake. He has been a. fair stake-earner this season having won close on £IOOO. The Lamb is thoroughly sound, and has great possibilities when placed at the jumping business, as is iiitended later on. . . ~ A.mono- the most promising recruits at the hurdling business is Troilus, inW Pine’is .stable. Troilus schooled over five flights on Thursday morning, jumping proficiently.
