ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.
HAWERA HATCHERY. TROUT AND PHEASANTS. Three weeks ago 3000 yearling brown trout were delivered to the Feilding Acclimatisation Society at Feilding, under the charge of the Hawera Acclimatisation Society’s hatchery curator. The fish were iu first-class condition, and the members of the Feilding Society were very pleased with the consignment. To-day 2000 yearling rainbow, and 1000 yearling -brown trout will be, sent to the Wanganui Society, iu charge of the curator. The brown trout will be liberated iu the neighbourhood of Wanganui, the rainbow species will be despatched in the section of the Wanganui Society’s territory on the Maia Trunk line. These rainbow trout are those whose fine condition excited the admiration of Mr. L. F. Ayson, Government Inspector of Hatcheries, who visited Hawera recently.
The despatch of these consignments will leave 12,000 in the hatchery. These will be distributed in the Hawera district in the course of the next few weeks.
As far as pheasants are concerned, Mr R. . Knuckey, of Eltham, a member of the Hawera council, took 25 well grown young birds for liberation in the Eltham district last week. Constable Lemm took the remaining birds for liberation to-day in Whakamara, this completing the liberation of pheasants for this season.
