HAWERA OPERATIC SOCIETY.
OPENING OF SEASON’S WORK. Once more the season for amateur opera in Hawera has commenced, being opeued by the first rehearsal and business meeting of the society last night in the Winter Show Buildings. The conductor, Mr • F, Ollerenshaw, was in charge, and the first sections of the' selected opera, “The Arcadians,” were practised. There was a, good attendance of ladies and a fair number of men, and all enjoyed their first “dip” into the very attractive chorus work of the opera. ... At the conclusion a general business meeting was held, at. .which it was' resolved. to make the ordinary practice night Monday in each week. The monthly social will ,be held next Thursday. In view of Anzac Day falling on next Monday, it was 7 decided to have no practice for the coming week and to commence regular rehearsal' on Monday, May 2. Consideration was given to alterations aiid additions to the rules of the society, as recommended by a sub-com-mittee. After a protracted discussion amendments were agreed to with slight alterations. It was then resolved to have the rales printed' and circulated' amongst members as early as possible.
