HOCKEY.
HAWERA CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Hawera Hot-key Club was- held in tlie Hawera Borough Council Chambers last evening. Mr P. O. Yeale was voted to the chair. There was an encouraging attendance. The chairman- said that last year, beyond holding a meeting, electing officers, -and having some practices, the club wa,s able to do little actual play. A difficulty had presented itself in tlie fact that some players received Wednesday as- a holiday and others Saturday.
He inquired what the prospects were, and received an assurance from j the members present that they would, with one- exception, be active- players. Various members indicated that they knew others who would be prepared to play. Mr J V owless said he had received information that teams from Mangatold, Otakeho, Stratford and New Plymouth would be playing on Saturdays, making five tearn-s in all. On the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr Vowless, it was resolved to carry on the club on an active basis. . ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The following officers were elected: Patron, Mr H. G. Dickie, M.P.; president, Mr S. J. Ca trail; vice-presi-dents, Messrs B. McCarthy, E. H. Harrcp, L. A. Bone, H. It. Kemp, H. L. Spratt, W. G. Strange, and Athol Grant; secretary and treasurer, Mr J. Vow less; committee, Messrs V. Warner, P. O. Yeale, F. Sage, and It. Johnson. The elections of club and team captains were left over till after the team was in practice. GENERAL. Mr Ca-trau reported that the club had a small credit balance brought forward from 1924. Tlie club also hada. cup presented by Messrs Bennett and Sutton. The secretary was instructed to write to the Taranaki Hockey Association advising it- that the- Hawera Club would be -prepared to take, an active part in Saturday matches. It mas resolved to apply to the Hawera. Borough Council for the use of a ground. The club captain and the secretary were appointed delegates to the association. The membership was fixed at os for seniors, and a. nominal sum for juniors. It was decided to hold an initial practice on Saturday next. The secretary said that the competitions would* start earlier this- year on account of the departure of a New Zealand team for oversea-s. It was resolved to write to the Taranaki Association asking for particulars of the j season’s fixtures. The chairman urged all members to he active in enlisting new members. ■ Votes of thanks to the chair and the Press terminated the meeting.
