FIRST SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED. , (by telegraph—press association.) WELLINGTON, April 13. The first scholarships awarded by the Scientific Industrial Research ■* Department were announced to-day ais follow :—Mr N. S. Alexander, M.Sc. Auckland) for research into absorption of X rays; Mr J. C. Anderson, M.Sc. (Auckland' for the mutarotation of sugars; Mr P.W. Aitken, M.Sc. (Otago) for investigation of flax gum with a view to better removal and utilisation; Mr N. M. Rogers (Canterbury), research into the. helium content of New Zealand natural gases.
