ARAWA LIBERALITY.

DONATION OF LANDS. ROTORUA HIGH SCHOOLS. (BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) ROTORUA, April 12. Tlie foundation stone of the Rotorua District High School was laid this afternoon by tlie Minister of Education (Hou. it. Wright). The chairman of the board of governors (Mr. R. Nesbit) welcomed the very large repre r sentative gathering. He referred to the generosity of the Arawa tribe, who had made the school possible by gifts of land set aside for endowment purposes. Tlie Minister, in an eloquent speech, congratulated the district on the fine building, and its splendid area, of playing grounds, consisting of 170 acres. The building contract was for £10,600, of concrete throughout, accommodating 250 scholars, the school to be equipped with a laboratory and a technical building. The Mayor (Mr. C. H. C'l inland) and Mr. F. F. Hockly were the other speakers. For the Arawa tribe, (Messrs Hapara and Te Ukuatua, expressed the gratification of the native race at the fruition of their hopes, wishing success to the school. The Minister then laid the stone, receiving a silver trowel to mark the occasion and declaring it well and truly laid. He paid a tribute to the architect (Mr. E. La Trobe Hill), and the builders (Messrs Geanv and Clark). Cheers for the Minister closed the ceremony.
