WHAT WAS THE PENALTY? NO AUSTRALIAN ORDER. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received 9.50 a.m. to-day. SYDNEY, April 13. Ma.jor-Genenal Sir Newton J. Moore asked whether any records existed in the War Office as to the orders issued to the general officers of the Australian forces in war time regarding penalties that would be inflicted on machine-gunners, who might be guilty of quitting their posts. Sir L. Worthington Evans tsaid: “There is no record of such, an order.” He had conferred with a member who originally made such a statement in the House of Commons. Both were (satisfied that the document they saw did not necessarily’ bear an interpretation which had been placed upon it. —Sydney Sun Liable.
