TELEPHONE EXTENSION.
LINKING BOTH ISLANDS. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) CHRISTCHURCH, April 12. The Nortli and South Islands will be linked telephonieally, probably next week. The telephone wires from the cable across Ccok Strait, from Wellington will connect with the South Island stations at Seddon. Ten gangs of workmen have been employed recently between Christchurch and Seddon. Overhead w T ires are used throughout, as an underground cable service is not considered as efficient- for high-speed distance work.
