NORTH ISLAND ROADS.

INFORMATION FOR TOURISTS. The following information, contained in the Wellington Automobile Club's road report of April 8, will be of interest to motorists contemplating touring during the Easter vacation: — On the route to Auckland, the road between New Plymouth and Te Kuiti is fair. There is a very rough surface, and pot-bales, between Mokakatino and Molcau In the UrufL Valley, which is under repair, there are bad pot-holes. From Te Kuiti, the road is fair to Pokeno, beyond which no report is available.

Towards Wellington, the road is in good condition to beyond Palmerston North. .From Manakau (Bridge to Paraparaumu the surface is fair, but there is loose metal on the road, which is good to Pahautanui, beyond which to Paramata, it is bad, being under repair. From Porirua to the capital the road is greatly improved, although still under repair.

On the east coast, the surface is good between Wellington and Opofiki. with the exception of Gio Otoko Iliil between Grisbonie and the latter town, which is practically impassable when wet. The Railway Department will convey cars from Gisborne to Motu. The Napier-Taupo rente is in first-class order, as is the road from Tnupo to Whakatane, via Rotorua. From Rotorua to Hamilton, by the Tirau route, there is one bad patch at Mamaku, where inexperienced drivers require chains. Tlie coast read from Whakatane to Tauranga is now very good. From Tauranga to Waihi it is in fair condition, although about six miles of unmcttallcd surface require chains. The Tauranga-Rotorua road is now in goad order, the dangerous corners having boon much improved. From Waihi to Pokeno, the conditions arc fair, some clay portions requiring the use of chains in wet weather. The Waimar-ino-Taupo Road lias a good surface to Tokaanu, but is broken in stretches to Taupo. From the lake township, on the Atiamuri and Putaruru route, the road is satisfactory in fine weather, but is doubtful in the event of much rain, as the surface is under repair, and deviations are being constructed. Motorists should make enquiries at the Motor Company’s garage, Taupo.
