AUSTRALIAN ELECTION.
LABOUR’S MAJORITY. BY CABLE- PRESS ASSOCIATION -COPYRIGHT. Received 12.45 p.m. to-day. MELBOURNE, April 11. The latest election figures give the Labour Party 30 seats, the Nationalists 19, the Country Party 10, Country Progressives 2, the Australian Liberals 1, and Independents 3. The only successful Liberal was the Mayor of St. Kilda, Mr. Burnett, who defeated the Attorney-General, the Hon. P. W. Oggleston. Compared with last Parliament, the Labour Party has gained two seats; the Nationalists, whose party included five Independent Liberals, lost four; the Country Party lost one; the Country Progressive and Independents both gained one. IN WEST AUSTRALIA. Received 12.45 p.m. to-day. PERTH, April 12. The Australian elections have been completed. The sitting members for the four north-west seats have been returned with substantial majorities. The strength of the parties in the new Parliament are: Labour 2G, United Party 16, Country Party 7; doubtful one.
