REPRIMANDED.
DISPUTATION TO MINISTER. Concern was displayed by residents ol Levin who. waited upon, the Post-master-General (Hon. AY. Nosworthy), protesting against the department’s proposal to remora the control of the VVeraroa post offico to the Levin office. It was feared (says the “Dominion”) that users of the. smaller office would lose many facilities ; but Mir Nosworthy assured the deputation that the service would remain the same’. He emphatically refuted a suggestion that this was the thin end of a wedge for the ultimate removal of the Woraroa office: Mr. Roe, who .claimed tli©-distinction of being the first- postmaster at. Levin, mentioned several anomalies which he considered would exist if the control of the office were, shifted to Levin; — such as the destination ol : a registered letter and the delivery of letters. “I think it is the thin end of the wedge,” lie said. The Minister: “You have no right to think without the facts in a matter like this when you are dealing with me. I do -hot care for these methods. That is the point. Do you assert that we are going to close the office or. not?” Air Roe: “No.”
Mi: Nosworthy : “AVell, this has been spread pretty freely. T, have correspondence to say so— If you think this is the thin end' of the wedge, I want to tell you that there was never any intention of closing the office.” Mr. lloe : “I am pleased to hear you say that.” Mr. Nosworthy: “You are a. bit late now saying this, when the department never had any intention of closing the place. Whoever made this statement had lio authority to do so.”
