HAWERA CLUB TOURNAMENT. Tiro Hawera Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club tournament is now almost completed. Miss Whittington, from, scratch, won the ladies’ handicap singles, beating Miss Hawken (17) by ten points ini the. final. In the championship event Miss Whittington was the winner, contesting the final with i\l iss Knight, and winning by o—s, <5.0. Miss Whittington also reached the. ladies' championship- doubles final. With. Miss Wills, she defeated the Misses Burgess and Rolrert-son 6 —o, C—2. In the mixed handicap doubles, McCarthy and Miss Knight (ser.) beat Palmer- and M iss Robertson. (10) by chre.> points. ... The men’s handicap singles final will be between Palmer (8) and Jones (10). McCarthy and Ryan have reached the semi-final of th.s men’s championship doubles. In the men’is championship singles, Jones meets Smith in the final. A start was made- to play the game during the week-end. W hen the match, was a set all, the failing light led to a cessation of play, this course -having been previously agreed upon, if necessary. Jones won the first set 6 —o, and Smith the second 6 —3. It is intended to replay the match on Wednesday.
