Meyer (a former president of the Baptist Union and of the National Federation of Free Churches), who is celebrating his eightieth birthday, received a cheque for £BOO from 500 admirers, and also a huge birthday cake, and a portable wireless set. The Archbishop of Canterbury sent a letter saying: “You have a year’s precedence of myself. These days of eventide are solemn. 1 should like your fellowship in thought and prayer. ’ ’
