BUTTER AND CHEESE
GRADING STATISTICS FOR. MARCH
The figures of the dairy division of the Department of Agriculture show that the salted butter graded for March, 1927, totalled 7195 tons, and the unsalted 305 tons, a total of 7500 tons, compared with (5175 tons salted and 161 tons unsalted, a total of 6339 tons for March, 1926; an increase of 18.3 per cent. For the eight months ended March, 1927, the respective quantities were 59,244 tons and 2011 tou«, a total of 61,255 tons compared with 52,318 tons and 2727 tons, a total of 55,045 tons for the corresponding period of the preceding season, an increase of 11.3 per cent. The clieo.se graded for March. 1927 comprised: White. 6211 tons; coloured. 3012 tons, «i total of 9253 ions, compared with. 5816 tons white, and 3310 tons coloured, a, total of 9126 tons for March, 192(5, an increase of 1.4 per cent. The quantities for the eight months ended March, 1927. were: White, -12.458 tons; coloured, 21,207 tons; total of 63.665 tons; compared with 39,608 tons white, and 22.225 tons coloured, a total of 61,833 tons, for the eoresponding period of the preceding season, an increase of 2.9 per cent. Converting these figures into butterfat equivalent there, is an increase of 8.-I pel - cent, in hutterfat pioduc-tion for the eight months, as compared with the corresponding period of the 192 season.
Stocks held in the various grading ports: as at March 31, 1927, were: Butter, 13,960 tons ; cheese, 14,697 tons, a* •ompared with 11,129 tons butter and 13.(535 tons cheese held on March 31. 1926.
