THE LEGEND OF THE OWL.
Ix>ng, long ago on the earth the birds were very cold, because there was no sunshine to make them Warm. One day a brave little wren offered to go to heaven and bring down some fire, but in doing -so she lost nearly all her feathers. All the other birds were so proud of her bravery they offered to give her a feather each—all except the owl. When it came to the owl’s turn to give a feather he simply sat on a branch 'and shivered'. “Wlioo ! AYhoo!” He still sits on a branch and shivers and says ‘‘Wlioo! Whco!” And now lie is so ashamed of himself that he' only comes out at night, when none of the other birds can see him.
