WANGANUI ROADS.

REPORT ON CONDITION Mr \Y. G. Walk ley, secretary of ths? South Taranaki Automobile Associat.on, has received a letter from the secretary of the Wanganui Association requesting information as to tip state of the road.s in this district, in order that lie may be able to furnish members with a. circular deporting on the various roads in the North Island before th? Easter holidays. The letter includes the following information in regard to roads in the Wanganui district, where at present there arv only two sections of unmet alled roads oh the main thoroughfares, which are on the Parapara and the road from Taihape to Raetahi and Ohakune. ,Parapara Road.—Providing the weather is reasonable between now and Easter, this road should be quite passable for tourists, however, a day’s rain soon affects it, and it may become impassable. At any time it is not advisable. to risk it without carrying good chains, as on account of the hi'Jy nature of the country there js always a certain amount of danger due to the car being liable to skid. TaihaDe to Raetihi and Ohakune. — The unmet a lied portion of this road between Hiliitabi and Ivarioi is, of course, laid soon after rain, but even with the bad weather at Christmas, it was passable at all times, although chains were required and several peop’e were stuck for an hour or .so. The unmetalled portions of this road, however, run through flat country, and although a. motorist may get .stuck or .skid, there _is no danger of getting over precipitous cliffs.

Th, other main roads in the district are all metalled and motorists are not h'ke'y to be held up. The road from Wanganui to Wangnehu—the first nine miles on, the INI ain South Road out of Wanganui, which has long been a. bugbear to motorists, is now in better order than ■> has been for many years.
