THE LATE MR. N. C. YOUNG.
AN APPRECIATION. (By a Fellow Sportsman.) As one whose privilege and pleasure it has been to he one of his best friends and has known the late “Ned” Young for over 15 years, along with many others, I deeply regret the loss we have sustained through his death, which took place on Saturday. He was a man of sterling nature, quiet and ever ready to lend a helping hand to one in need. As a pig hunter he had few equals, and many a time he has started out at 3 o’clock in the morning to hunt all day and not return till dark, nearly as fit as when he started. This was more than many of his companions were; in fact, some were nearly too tired to unlace their boots. He once remarked to me in his quiet- way whilst out hunting on a station, about 20 miles from Ha.wera, that he had rid the place of over 2000 pigs since he had started hunting there, and I am sure lie was a welcome guest to that rnnholder. He was' well over middle age when be took up fishing, and his sporting instincts made him one of the best and keenest fishermen in the district. His health of late years had prevented him from going about much, hut wherever he was known he was liked, and the writer, along with very many others, can say, much to our sorrow and loss, there has gone from our midst truly a “real sport” and a “white man.”
