PATEA.
(From Our Own Correspondeoit.) BOY SCOUTS. A movement i-s being made here to revive the Scouts, and with this object in view a meeting of those- interested was held in the Borough Council Chambers on Wednesday evening last, liis Worship the Mayor presiding. The attendance was not large, no doubt in a great measure due to the inclemency of the weather. In opening the meeting, his Worship stressed the importance of the Scout organisation, and hoped that the present efforts to revive the movement in Patea would he crowned with success.
Mr Horner, of Hawera, addressed those present, and though regretting the smallness of the number, had no doubt that they would be the nucleus of a Scout committee. The -speaker said the Scouts from Normanby, Hawera and Waverley were holding a camp in Patea at Easter and he thought it would be an opportune time to revive the movement in Patea.
Mr Barbour, of Hawera, also spoke on the matter, endorsing the remarks of Mr F. Horner.
It was decided, after a short discussion, to endeavour to revive the movement here, and those present at the meeting wre appointed a committee, with power to acid to their number, for this purpose, Mr Whittington being appointed secretary. FOOTBALL CLUB BALL.
One of Ihe most popular dances of the season in this district is undoubtedly the annual ball of the Patea .Football Club. This will take place in the Town Hall on Tuesday-evening, and if the way in which ilia tickets are going off is any criterion as to the .success of the evening, then success is assured.
