BANKRUPTCY.

FOUR LAST QUARTER. The first quarter of the year would seem to be the quietest period as regards financial failures, for, according to statistics kept by the Deputy Official Assignee at Hawera, Mr. R. S. Sage, onlv a small portion of the year’s bankruptcy petitions are filed during the first three months. To date, four petitions have been filed this year. Last year, when altogether 21 petitions were dealt with, only two were lodged during the first quarter. Again, in 1925, when, judging from the returns, the slump period affected the district most severely, and 38 petitions were recorded, seven (less than one-fifth) were filed during the early period. As against a clean sheet for the month of March last year, one bankruptcy was recorded during last month.
