RAILWAY TRAGEDY.
SCHOOL GIRL KILLED. IBT TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) PUKEKOHE, March 31. A Pukekohe Technical High School girl, Lily Isabella Reid, 14 years of age, whose parents reside at Ponga, near Papakura, met her death under tragic circumstances this morning. She was a passenger on a train which arrives at Pukekohe at 9.10. When six hundred yards north of Pukekohe station, the deceased left a carriage for the platform, presumably with the intention of being the first to disembark. She fell off. Her clothing evidently became entangled in the wheels. The Ixxlv was dashed against the sleepers and the rail, and was terribly mutilated. The face and shoulders were crushed and mangled, the arms broken, and several fingers on the left hand amputated. The dress was found yards from where the body was picked up. Nobody witnessed the accident. Upon arrival at the station her schoolmates informed the stationmaster that the girl was missing. Two porters were sent to search, and located the body.
