MINERS’ STRIKE
“WALK=OUT” IN AMERICA REDUCTION IN WAGES. MEN AHEAD OF ORDERS. BY CABLE—PUKSB ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received 12.5 p.m. to-day. NEW YORK, March 30. Indian-Apolis reports state that the “walk-out” of bituminous coal miners on the Middle West fields has already started —nearly 48 hours ahead of the general “walk-out” scheduled for midnight to-night. Reports indicate that many matters especially on the Southern Illinois fields, were decided ahead of schedule in order to allow the men to find new employment, in their respective communities. Approximately 159,000 will drop tools at the hour ap pointed. The trouble is due to the operators’ refusal to renew the [fresent wage scale of 74- dollars a day. The operators insist that they cannot continue operations, competing with non-union mines which pay 44- to 5 dollars per day. The “walk-out” will be effected Avithout, disorders in New York and Indianapolis.
