TAWHITI SPORTS.

YESTERDAY’S MEETING. CONCLUDING EVENTS. The Tawhiti sports meeting was concluded after this paper went to press yesterday. With tiie exception of a few light showers, the threatening wet weather kept oil, and IMr. R. P. Morrissey, the controller, was able to push the meeting to a successful conclusion. The following are results additional to those published yesterday : Musical chairs. —Miss Walker I, Miss Reid 2.

Secret cycle race. —C. Ericeson 1, L. Gates 2. A lady blindfolded fired a pistol to indicate the close of the race, the leaders at the sound of the gun being the winner«. Long jump.—U. Shore (6in), 19ft Tin, 1; J. Jackson (2ft Gin), 19ft Gin, 2; A. Newall (ser), 18ft 10in, 3. Pony trot; under 12 hands; regularly ridden to ■school; riders to be under 15 Years. — G Kerri sk (“Blue Boy”) 1, R. Burke 2, R. T. Tapp 3. Girls’ district handicap.—M. Reid 1, M. Leonard 2, 1. Toy 3. 889 yards handicap. —O. Sturrock (45yds) ~1, R. Walker (55yds) 2, A. Rumball (35vds) 3. Won by inches; third man ten yards away. Time, 2min. 30sec. Rumball looked a likely winner until the last 220 y 7 ards, when Sturrock took a. five yards lead. Walker came from the hack in the straight. In a great finish he passed Rumball, and almost made a dead heat of it with Sturrock.

CONCERT AND DANCE. PRIZE DISTRIBUTION The big day at Tawhiti. did not conclude ■with the afternoon sports. The hall was the scene of a splendid concert in the evening. The accommodation could not cope with the crowd which attended. The patron, Mr. H. C. Dickie, M.P., sent a telegram regretting his absence, and wishing the committee all success. In the absence of the patron, the president (Mr. J. B. Laurenson) addressed the gathering, and voiced the thanks of the organisers of the sports, to Mr. H. Dawson, for the u-se of his paddock; to the athletic club, to the judges and officials, to the donors of trophies, especially Pananui. W. Ngeru, and Tam aka, the performers at the concert, and the ladies’ committee. Most- of all, Mr. Laurenson spoke of the efforts of Mr. R. P. Morrissey, who had done so much ;n organising and conducting the sports and the concert. Mr. AV. Morrissey, the secretary, had also done splendid work. The concert- consisted of the following programme■: Songs by the Misses Reedhey, J. Bissett, M. Barnes, Messrs. T. Steffert. O. J. McFadyen' part song, Fraser Road Ghoir; recitation, Miss Dora Metcalf.

Mr. R. P. Morrissey then presented the prizes amidst much applause and enthusiasm. Subsequently a dance was held.

Mr. P. Doyle was the M.C., and the proceedings continued till the early hours of the morning.

The day was a memorable one in Tawhiti.

The total returns for the Tawhiti sports and concert .amounted to £134.
