In the .House of Commons a Labour proposal to abolish the death penalty in the army except for treachery was rejected by 25!) votes to 134. Mr Thurtlc said that nothing was more horrible in war than seeing a blindfolded man shot by his comrades because his nerve had failed. What was called cowardice was generally crackin under a tremendous nervous strain. It was utterly unjust to take a man’s life for such a weakness.
