Mr A, J. Glasson, of the Department of Agriculture, Hawera, returned last evening from a holiday visit- of six weeks’ duration to Honolulu. Mr. Miles A. Barnett lias been appointed physicist to the Dominion laboratory, states a Press Association message. It was reported just before midnight that the Hon. D. H. Guthrie’s condition was very low, states a Masterton Press Association message. The Rev. W. L. Marsh, M.A., has accepted a call to the Devonport Presbyterian Church, stated a Press Association message from Auckland.' At the Masonic installation ceremony last night in Manaia, hearty good wishes were accorded R.W. Bro. G. W. Rogers on his recovery after a severe illness. Mr M. F. Purser, who, with .Mrs Purser and family, has been holiday-mak-ing at Coromandel far some weeks, has now returned to Hawera. Air. TV. May, of Hawera, received news last evening of the death of his mother at Christchurch. Mr. May left for Christchurch this morning. Mr. and. Mrs. P. A. Healey, of Wanganui,* are visiting Hawera, and expect ,to remain here until Wednesday next. They are staying at the White Hart Hotel. - Mr G. T. Bayly, whose association with Taranaki goes back very many years, but who has been a resident of Auckland for a long time, is now paying a visit to Taranaki, and is staying in Hawera with Mr and Mrs F. G. Treweek. Recognition of the services given to the Hawera Operatic Society by Mr Herbert Taylor was made at the monthly social last evening, when a presentation was made. The president, Dr J. McGhie, said he regretted Mr Taylor’s proposed departure to Wellington, but wished him every success. On behalf of the members he presented Mr Taylor with a travelling bag. A lost Wor. Bro. G. Russell (Provincial Grand Master), R-.W. Col. G-. Barclay (Grand Secretary), and Y.W. Canon Sykes (Grand Chaplain), ISiree of the visiting officials of the Masonic Lodge who were in attendance at the consecration of the Manaia Lodge last evening, loft for the south -by this morning’s express. V.W. Bro. J. C. Riddell, who came to Hawera with the party on Tuesday evening, is visiting Eltliam to-day.
