MANAIA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) HOCKEY PA ACE. The ladies’ hoc-key club Gance, held in Alanaia Town Flail last evening, was a success, dancers being present from all parts of the district. The floor was in capital order, and first-class music supplied by Woods's orchestra, consisting of Mr.\ Woods (piano), Messrs FI. Woods (violin) and A. hi king ton (cornet). Extras were played by Miss At. Hansen (piano), Messrs P. Mullins (violin), and C. Hansen (euphonium). The duties of M.C. were capable carried out by Messrs A. E Sadler and M. Rowe'. A first-class supper was provided by the ladies’ committee (Mesdames Sadler, FI ill and Pee) and the hockey girls. During the evening the girls made a presentation to Miss M. Hansom, who is leaving Manaia for Wanganui. Mr. Sadler, in making the presentation, referred ire the great interest Miss' Ransom had taken in the girls’ hockey club at Manaia, also the kiss the club would sustain in 1 lie departure of one of its foremost players. He asked Miss Hansom to accept on behalf of the eluli an umbrella-, suitably engraved, and wished her every success in her new home at Wanganui, Miss Ransom suitably responded, and “For she’s a- jolly good follow’’ was then sung h,v all present. HIRERNiAN SPORTS COMMITTEE. A general meeting of the Manaia Hibernian Sports Committee was held last evening, Mr A. J. Hansen presiding over u good attendance. Mr L. Simmons’ otter for refreshment stall. £5, was accepted.
It was resolved that the secretary make application to the Taranaki Rugby Union to run a seven-a-side Rugby tournament on April 30, and that a similar application also be made to the Taranaki Football Association. It was resolved that the next meeting be held on Tuesday, March 22, to make fina 1 arrangements for the forthcoming sports. The secretary reported that record entries were coming in for the different events from all parts of New Zealand. The chairman reported that the work on the ground was progressing very well. Messrs J. A. ,G, Cosgrove and H. G. Watts wer? appointed judges of the field events.
