SOUTH TARA NAKI. COMPETITIONS
Tho earlier part of the season was not very interesting, tho clubs playing its usual their internal games, but until the past ten days there have been few matches. That period, however, has -been one continued spell of croquet, thanks to the generosity and enthusiasm of Mrs. VV. McL’Dowie and Mrs. J. EL Campbell, who presented .valuable trophies to the Hawera club for competition laniongst the South Taranaki club's. These two clips (have aroused live interest, and have been a distinctfactor in fostering the. game, and raising the local standard. There is no doubt of this, and any spectator following the play could see that this was so. The fact of clubs from so many distinct localities, as far apart as Patea, R.ahotu, and Stratford, having teams entered for, The competition was a striking evidence of the steadily increasing scope of the game :iri the south of the province. It i,s worth notice that now the Ha•wera club hold the Campbell cup. Eltham the McL’Dowie cup, and Patea the Home rose bowl.
