Emphasising the need for inspection of imported timber for possible pests, tbc New Zealand Sawmillcrs’ Federation states that it has now received a piece of redwood showing borer marks, which contained live specimens. This wood was imported as door stock, and arrived in Anckiand from the port of Washington. it was supposed to have lie on kiln dried, but the specimens secured have been identified by t he Government Entomologist as a destructive post, which Dr. Tillyard, in a statement a few days ago, .said was menacing the Dominion’s pi mis insign is forests. The federation intends to plead for the strictest possible cordon at ports to prevent any additions to tbc timber pests in the country. WORKING BOOTS.
