SCHOOL FOR TURUTURU
BOARD’S FURTHER ACTION. At yesterday’s meeting of the Taranaki Education Board, held at New Plymouth, it was decided to make further application to the department for a grant for the proposed school at Turuturu. When the list of projected works in order of urgency was submitted, Mr. A. Lees drew attention to the fact that the application lor a school at Turuturu, which headed the list, was, setdown at a cost of £3500. He said that subsequent to the application for a grant of that amount made on August 12 last, an application for £1913 to cover the cost of an open-air building had been made in October. This had not met the department’s requirements, and on February 24 an application lor £2310 for a permanent wooden building had been sent forward. . He considered that the list should be amended to give both of these applications, and so refer the responsibility for choice of building to the department. He said that- the people of the district were not so much concerned with the type of building erected so long as educational facilities were provided. If the open-air type was not approved by the department, the speaker considered that the board should be advised what the requirements were. Mr Lees’s suggestion was embraced in a motion, which was carried.
