BOWLING.
A BORLAND VISIT 0R S. RAIN HALTS PLAY. The touring team of Auckland bowlers which arrived in Hawera last evening met with indifferent weather this morning. The visit had been keenly awaited by the local players, who were eager to repaying a part of the hospitality, for which the Auckland centre has earned a favourable reputation. The visitors have had much play in Taranaki. They went front Wanganui to New Plymouth last Saturday evening. In the northern centre they engaged .in several test matches in the early part of the week, and afterwards worked their way south, on both sides of the Mountain, engaging in matches at Opunake, Piham.a, Manaia. and Stratford. They arrived in Hawera last evening, and the programme arranged for to-day was six rinks against the Hawera club on the Hawera green, and five rinks against Patea. on. the Park green, in the morning; eight links against the Park club on 'the Park green, and three rinks against Elthain, at Eltham, in the afternoon. Unfortunately rain held up the play in the morning. HAWERA GREEN. At the Hawera green some thirteen heads were played before play ceased. After that the visitors were entertained with refreshments. Mr. J.. Pascoe expressed the appreciation felt by the Auckland howlers at the hospitality they had enjoyed. Messrs G. Burgess and J. Foy spoke on behalf of Hawera. Miss Ballantine responded to the cheers given for the ladies who assisted with the entertainment of the visitors. (From; Our Own Correspondent.) Two rinks of bowlers from Auckland played at Manaia yesterday, the match resulting in Manaia. winning by 28 points. ■ A rink from Auroa also- played' a visiting mink. Auckland winning by six points. Both matches were played on the Manaia green. Tea was dispensed by the ladies. The -following were- the scores, Auckland players being mentioned first: Hunt, Ootterill, Mnndie, and C. Hardlev 14 v. Innis, Hornby, Ainsley, and Christie 34. Buchanan, Hobby, Smith, and Paseoe 21 v. Hotter, Butler, Johnson, and McDonald 29. Totals: Auckland 45; Manaia 63. AUCKLAND V. AUROA. In this match Auroa players are mentioned first: Quinn. Bigbam. Duff, and Bradford 24 v. Halford. Lissons. Contis, and Gooding 30. AUCKLAND v. PATEA. The Patea team was -short, and several Park players were included.
