GIRL GUIDES. A meeting of the Girl Guides’ Committee was held on Friday evening, there being present: Mes-dames Gray (cihiair), Badland, Goldsmith, Saunders, Wylcls and Foord (captain). Before proceeding with the business of the meeting all present stood 1 in silence for two minutes as aJ mark of respect of the late Miss I. B. Tiplady, \vho had filled the position of secretary. It was decided to forward a: letter'of condolence to Mr andi Mrs Tiplady. The captain reported satisfactory progress. The Guides and Brownies had been inspected by the Duchess of York at Hawera in the course of an enjoyable outing on Maxell, 3. Second-class tests have been passed by and badges awarded to Guides L. Badland, Dorothy Gower, and Kathleen Fake. The committee was notified' of a visit to Eltham next week of the Dominion Chief Commissioner (Mrs W. R. Wilson). A vote of thanks was accorded the School Committee for the use of the Scout room on February 26. SOCIAL EVENING. METHODIST YOUNG- LADIES. An excellent programme was provided at the Wesley Hall under the auspices of the Eltham Methodist young ladies. There was a large and appreciative audience'. The songs contributed 1 by Miss M. Cocker and Mr H. Reynolds were enthusiastically received, as were also a duet by Betty and Alan Reynolds, and recitations by J. Haycock and Maisie Anderson. The accompaniments were played by Miss S. Gubb, . . Parlour games and competitions formed a fair proportion of the evening’s entertainment, and afforded much amusement. KEWPIE CLUB’S CARNIVAL. The Oddfellows’ Hall on Friday evening was gay with greenery, coloured streamers, 'balloons, kewpies and paper hats, on the occasion of the Kewpie Club’s carnival dance. Artistic decorations added to the general air of gaiety. About 40 couples danced until midnight to the strains of am efficient orcehstra, and extras contributed by Misses G. Addison, P. Clare, R. Gibb and Prince and Mr L. Cooper. Novelty dances were won by Mr J. Prentice and Miss Neilson (spot, fox trot), and Mr J. .Prentice and Miss R. Gibb (Monte Carlo fox trot). The duties of M.C. were efficiently carried out by Mr D. Jones.
