In the resumption of the bootleggers’ war. an attempted sensational gaol delivery, resulting in the death ol three persons and the wounding of fiye others, marked the high point in Chicago's crime wave to-day. Two bootleggers were ‘laterally torn to pied l - by a fu.silade of machine-gun bullets while sitting an an anutniobilt in a busy .street. A. rival gang look this revenge upon informers who hail helped the police to make arrests an a nand upon a liquor stroebouse. A. third, bootlegger was shot dead while ‘leaving bis Loose. Sis prisoners were condemned to death for killing a warden last year. They attempted to escape from the Joliey prison. Three got outside the walls. Only one, however, escaped, but. having been supplied with arms by their confederates they engaged m Sa shooting duel with the police, resulting in the wounding of two officers and three convicts.
