BOY SCOUT NOTES.
(By “Tenderfoot.”)
Regular work was continued on Monday—at 6.30 Scouts’ games and art; 7 practice in marching. At 7.20 Mr P. O. Yeale conducted Ms class in life-sav-ing. This class is of inestimable value to us as a 'Scout troop. Methods of rescue and release were practised. Mr Veale offers to take the Scouts to the baths twice a week in addition to taking the Monday class. The theory of the class room will be put into effect in the water.
A very complete first aid outfit is now the property of the troop. Mr Booth, whose interest in ambulance work is so well known, presented this prior to his departure for Auckland. Useful first aid work was done by our Scouts on the occasion of the visit of the Duke and Duchess of York. Several people fainted as a result of the congestion and heat. The Scouts were prepared. Attendance is steadily improving. Monday’s was a record, when the roll call returned 21 Scouts.
Acting-Scouter L. 0. H. Barbour, with Scouter N. Cowie (Mokoia Troop), visited Pfitea last Friday and selected a site for the proposed Easter camp. The one chosen was in a plantation of pines opposite the Domain. From every standpoint this is an ideal spot for camping, privacy and shelter being among the features. River and sea batMng will be possible, and for sports the Domain will be available. The Scouts are becoming enthusiastic over this project. A majority of the troop have expressed their willingness and eagerness to attend this carnp. Parents and prospective Scouts are invited to attend the parades on Monday evenings at 7 o’clock.
