ELTHAM-TAKAU MEETING. The three-day programme of the El-tham-Takau Club’s dog trials at Mangamiingi reached finality yesterday in fine weather. There -was a comparatively small attendance of .spectators, but the apparent lack of interest created by this defection was compensated for by the keenness of the numerous competitors. ' One of the most notable feature® of ! the trials is the preponderance of youthful competitors wlio took part—in many instances their maiden effort. This may be taken as a fair indication, that the* utility of slicep dog trials is being accorded due recognition by the rising generation of sheep fanners. TUo rough, hilly country in the immediate vicinity of the trial grounds eloquently exemplifies the need of good clogs in the working of sheep. Tlie intelligence and obedience to command displayed by tlie majority of those competing was, especially to townsmen, truly remarkable.
