ARMY RIFLE MEETING.
COMPETITIONS AT TRENTHAM. CONTEST NEARING COMPLETION. NAVAL MEN PROMINENT. The Army rifle meeting programme was practically cleaned up to-day, leaving only the King’s Medal Match for to-morrow. Heavy rain during the night- and early morning made the prospect doubtful, but before 8 o’clock the clouds lifted and the rain ceased for a while, so that a start was mad© with shooting in the teams’ matches. One or two heavy drizzles during the forenoon threatened trouble, but fortunately the weather became gradually better, and in the afternoon the sun cam© out in torrid fervour, but a fresh breeze kept the atmosphere cool and the bugbear of target riflemen, the “mirage,” did not develop.
