HAWERA TRAINING NOTES. (By “Limited.”) A drizzling rain hampered training operations a little this morning, although -some useful work was accomplished. The No. 1 plough was used for a couple of gallops, but the remainder of th© trials were put up on the trial grass track. Eerie is still doing long slow work, and lias plenty of beef to take off yet. Silvermine was given his first- fast work since racing. The little fellow is in capital shape, and accounted for Orazone in a half-mile “flutter” on the plough in 51£secs. with his ears pricked. Bisox was out and did a mile at half pace. Mr. H. Spratt was present to see his two horses, Orcades and Men dip, run along. They went on the trial grass over five furlongs, Orcades having the best of the gallop run in lmin. 3 4-ssec.
Glengariff and Partaga were to have been companions over seven furlongs, but the start was not good. Glengariff did his round at three-quarter pace, and Partaga ran his seven easily in lmin 41sec.
Blue Peter worked a mile by himself in lmin. 51sec., and Rational ran four furlongs of six in 52sec. An interesting piece of work was accomplished by The Lamb and Tip Tree. They ran the first half-mile in 501-osec., six furlongs in lmin. 17-sec., and the full mile in lmin. 44 2-ssec., finishing together. Benzora went by himself and covered five furlongs nicely in lmin. 3sec. Paitonu and Airtight finished on terms, with Bright Glow some lengths away, over .six furlongs in 3 min. 17sec. Euphonium and Barryanda ran along five furlongs, taking lmin. ssec. Lady Bentinek and Enare were exercised on No. 2 plough. Silent and Royal Acre were companions over five furlongs, Royal Acre showing up best in lmin. 3 2-ssec. Gold Collector registered a good performance, running five furlongs by himself, and finishing well in lmin. 3 2-ssec. Dan lie’ and Captain Gazeley hopped off at the six furlong post, ancl ran the distance in lmin 19sec., the last half-mile in 52sec.
Roremoana and Lady Cavendish were given half-pace work. Take Take and Lady Estelle were given strong pace work. Owners and trainers having engagements for the Opunake meeting may secure stabling accommodation at Hawora. for their horses overnight, at moderate rates. Accommodation at Pihama is difficult to procure. It is advisable to apply to Mr. J. Cahill (Hawera), who has charge of transport arrangements, and who will arrange for billets for horses and attendants in Hawera. Horses senet under his care will he loaded on the special train timed to leave Hawera at 8.10 a.m. Horses must be ready to load not later than 7.30 a.m.
