VISIT OF SOUTH AUCKLAND TEAMS. WIN FOR LOCAL PLAYERS. Nine rinks from various clubs in South Auckland, which are touring South Taranaki, played in Hawera yesterday, five on the Hawera Club s green and four at the Park. Ihe matches were closely contested, and resulted in a. win at both greens for the local teams. The “tourists” were given welcome at both greens. At Haweia Mr. E. Dingle (president of the centre) and Mr. G. A. Burgess (Hawera president) both expressed the pleasure felt at the visit of the South Auckland representatives, and the hope that the visits would be returned. Mr. Pilkmgton, manager of the team and a member of the Bowling Council, happily acknowledged tne greetings. At the Park Mr. F. Quin gave the visiting team a hearty welcome, and Mr. James, president of their centre, responded, expressing keen appreciation of the kindness showered on theni here and wherever they had been in Taranaki. -ii At each green the ladies provided a dainty afternoon tea, and this was most acceptable and acknowledged with hearty cheers. the finish of the game between Noonan! and Hicks, and actually, without the latter’s score, the visitors were lead-1 ing. The latter and his men, however,, played up well, and their lead of 11 placed the issue beyond doubt. At the Park a win was also scored by the local men, the totals being South Auckland 91, Park 104.
