MOTOR LICENSE, CANCELLED FOR A YEAR, (BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION. > AUCKLAND, Alarch. 8. George Frederick Cross, aged 32, will not be permitted to drive a. motor vehicle for the next twelve months. Air. AlcKean, S.AI., decided that way at the Police Court this morning, when Cross pleaded guilty to being in a. .state of intoxication while in charge of a motor car yesterday. The Magistrate said that there was little to be .said in mitigation of the offence. Cross would be fined £2O, in default six weeks’ imprisonment. His license was also cancelled for twelve months. CHARGED WITH FORGERY. CHRISTCHURCH, Alarch 8.. David Swift, aged 18, pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’®. Court to .several charges of forgery before Air. Alosley, S.M. Swift was described as an incorrigible, addicted to roaming about. He bad, by breaking and entering, obtained some cheque forms and, in his wanderings, he forged and cashed these cheques- with .shopkeepers, one for £5. one for £5 10s; and another for £5. The theft of the cheques occurred on December 24 and the third cheque, was cashed on February 14. ' Accused, who has been on probation for four years since December, 1925. pleaded guilty to breaking and entering and the theft of four cheques, and also to the offences of forgery and false pretences. In respect to the forged cheques he was committed to the Supreme Court. CASES AT WELLINGTON. WELLINGTON, Alarch 9. A waterside worker named Donald Larnach, aged 39, was convicted to-day of the theft of a bottle of wine, valued at 7s 6d, the property of the Union Company. He was fined £5, in default a month’s imprisonment. Fanny Whitaker, a widow aged 65, pleaded guilty to using premises known as the Hntbox as a common gaminghouse - William Alfred Brown admitted assisting her in hookmaking. The woman was fined £IOO and the man £25.
