BILL IN THE COMMONSLABOUR MAN’S CRITICISM. LLOYD GEORGE STIGMATISED,
BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT LONDON, March 8. In the House of Commons, Mr E. Thurtle is seeking leave to introduce; a Bill making illegal any agreement to recommend the conferment of a title or honour in return for donations to party funds. He declared that the origin of Air Llovd George’s fund was largely the sale of honours. The practice existed previously as a retail business. The Coalition made it wholesale. The umc’iean gold which thus came to Mr Lloyd George’s fund caused deep convulsions in the Liberal Party. The Bill would compel parties to publish periodical lists of .subscriptions. The sale of honours was corruption on a grand scale. _ It was an offence to buy a vote for half a crown, hut the law permitted the sale of a peerage for £40,000. The" Bill was read the first time.
